METALLICA, réédition de l’album « Reload » en coffret collector
Metallica sort le décrié « ReLoad » dans un massif coffret collector en édition limitée pour les fans les plus acharnés.
Elle est loin l’époque où Metallica faisait tout pour ne pas être un groupe commercial, refusant même de tourner un clip. Devenu depuis le plus gros groupe de Metal de la planète, ils se sont transformés en machine à fric digne de Kiss. Entre les places de concerts qui explosent à chaque tournée, du merchandising à tout va et des coffrets collectors hors de prix, cela devient un sacré budget de rester fans des Four Horsemen qui mettent de plus en plus de temps à sortir de nouveaux albums. Les plus fidèles vont devoir à nouveau repasser à la caisse ce vendredi 26 juin 2026 pour la sortie de la réédition remasterisée de l’album décrié Reload dans la série de leurs coffrets collector. Pour les plus petites bourses, cette édition remasterisée est aussi disponible dans une version 3CD en digipack, en CD simple, en double vinyle noir et en K7 Audio.
Pour 250€, ce coffret collector contient l’album en CD et double vinyle 180g, le vinyl 7″ de « The Memory Remains« , 3 vinyles live, 15 CDs et 4 DVDs de titres rares, mixes brut, demos et titres live, une carte de téléchargement en MP3, 3 Tour Laminates, un poster, un print de Pushead, un autocollant, 10 médiators, 13 tests de Rorschach, une feuille de paroles et partitions et un livre de 128 pages à couverture rigide pleins de photos inédites et d’anecdotes.
Sorti le 18 novembre 1997, un an et demi à peine après la sortie de l’album Load, ReLoad est un peu les chutes de studio de son prédécesseur. Ayant composé plus de chansons qu’il en faut pour un seul CD, Metallica avait renoncé à l’époque sortir un double album. Au lieu de cela, ils ont gardé les chansons restantes pour leur septième album et sont même retournés en studio pour en composer d’autres et boucler des titres encore inachevés. Les premiers titres ont été enregistrés entre mai 1995 et février 1996 et l’album a été finalisé entre juillet et octobre 1997 aux studio The Plant en Californie et Right Track à New York.
Toujours produit par Bob Rock assisté par Randy Staub comme pour le Black Album, le disque délaisse encore une fois les racines Thrash de Metallica au profit d’un son plus Hard Rock et des expérimentations qui n’ont pas été au goût de tout le monde. Là où Load s’était écoulé à plus de 5 millions d’exemplaires aux Etats Unis son successeur n’a franchit que la barre des 4 millions d’exemplaires. Avec le recul, James Hetfield et Lars Ulrich semblent avoir eux aussi des réserves sur cet album que leur ancien bassiste Cliff Burton n’aurait pas apprécié selon le chanteur. Aujourd’hui seul le titre « Fuel » est devenu un titre incontournable des concerts avec parfois « The Memory Remains« . Ce titre est devenu populaire pour son featuring avec Marianne Faithfull, seule chanteuse à avoir été invité sur un album de Metallica. Au final la pochette utilisant le mélange de sang et d’urine pris en photo par l’artiste Andres Serrano reflète bien ce que pensent certains de cet album.
Pour revenir au présent, Metallica est en train d’achever sa nouvelle tournée européenne débutée le 9 mai 2026 à Athènes sans même passer par la France. Pour avoir encore une chance de les voir, ils seront le 28 juin à Cardiff et les 3 et 5 juillet à Londres pour un dernier week-end No Repeat. Ils seront ensuite en résidence à Las Vegas dans la salle Sphere pour une série de concerts d’exception entre le 1er octobre et 7 novembre 2026. Ils y reviendront entre le 28 janvier et le 13 mars 2027 mais toutes ces dates sont affichent déjà complet.
