METALLICA, l’album « Load » remasterisé pour un coffret collector
Avant son 30ème anniversaire, « Load » poursuit la collection de luxueux coffrets de la discographie de Metaliica.
Comment succéder à un album vendu à plus de vingt millions d’exemplaires à travers le monde ? C’est la question qui s’est posé à Metallica lorsqu’il leur a fallu sortir un nouveau disque après l’immense succès de leur disque éponyme « Metallica » surnommé le Black Album. Après quatre ans d’attente, le groupe faisait leur retour le 4 juin 1996 avec « Load« . Un nouveau disque accompagné d’un nouveau look qui avait encore plus déconcerté les fans que le précédent. Bien que vendu à « seulement’ 5 millions d’exemplaires, cela n’empêche pas Metallica de célébrer les trente ans à venir de l’album avec une nouvelle édition remasterisée.
Disponible ce vendredi 13 juin 2025, cette version remasterisée de « Load » est disponible dans un très gros coffret collector comprenant pas moins de 15 CDs, 6 Vinyls, 4 DVDs pour 301 titres au total avec 245 totalement inédits. Il contient aussi une carte de téléchargement MP3, deux Tour Laminates, un poster de Lollapalooza, un patch, une reproduction de la couverture du magazine Rolling Stone, cinq packs de médiators, un paquet de 14 cartes de test de Rorsach, des reproductions de pages de paroles et de partitions, et un livre de 128 pages. Tout cela à un prix car il faudra tout de même dépenser 255 euros pour se le procurer. Ceux qui n’ont pas les moyens pourront opter sur une édition 3CDs avec des démos et des titres live, une version CD simple ou en double Vinyle.
Si déjà, les fans de la première heure avaient eu du mal à s’habituer à « Enter Sandman », choisi comme premier single du Black Album en 1991, imaginez si vous ne l’avez pas vécu à l’époque la réaction des mêmes fans en découvrant « Until It Sleeps ? » quatre ans plus tard. Un titre porté par un clip d’Anton Corbijn, célèbre photographe et fidèle collaborateur de Depeche Mode, a des années lumières du Thrash Metal de leur trois premiers albums et où le groupe apparaissait avec les cheveux courts et portant du maquillage ! De quoi vraiment marquer une rupture dans la carrière du groupe qui s’était laissé convaincre que le Metal n’avait plus d’avenir.
Du sang et du sperme, c’est ce mélange que l’on trouve sur la pochette de Load. Une œuvre quasiment aussi expérimentale que l’album en lui-même. Deuxième album produit par Bob Rock, Metallica avait gardé des réserves sur leur première collaboration avec lui mais ils semblent lui avoir fait un peu trop confiance sur Load. L’ancien producteur de Bon Jovi semble les avoir poussé vers des sonorités plus country et atmosphériques et cet album manque cruellement de riffs acérés et de titres up-tempo. Il est clair que pour les fans des premiers albums, ce disque demande clairement d’avoir l’esprit ouvert. À voir comment ces chansons sont aujourd’hui oubliées lors des concerts de Metallica, le groupe a bien compris qu’ils avaient fait fausse route même s’ils sortaient l’année suivante le disque Re-Load avec les titres inutilisés de Load. De quoi rendre malheureux le bassiste Jason Newsted parti peu de temps après cette période.
Revenu depuis à des albums un peu plus énervés mais encore inspirés par ce virement plus grand public, Metallica a sorti son dernier album « 72 Seasons« au mois d’avril 2023. Deux ans plus tard, le groupe ne semble pas presser de lui donner un successeur car ils prolongent encore et encore leur tournée mondiale. Actuellement en tournée aux États Unis, le groupe a déjà annoncé une nouvelle tournée européenne en 2026 qui ne passera malheureusement pas par la France à en croire les dates révélées. Elle débutera le 9 mai 2026 à Athènes et s’achèvera pour le moment avec un dernier week-end no repeat les 3 et 5 juillet 2026 à Londres.
